A model of something may simplify your understanding of what it relates to and make things more clear.
A metaphor of something may open up your mind to see new qualities and/or solutions of what it relates to.
Can this be done at the same time? This is one of Kyrre’s key principles when he is designing the exercises in the Game of the Gap™ workshops.

You may have been to one of Kyrre’s workshops and done f.ex. the “organisation in motion” exercise with the sticks forming an invisible space in the middle. Why does it work so well?
This exercise serves both as a model and a metaphor. It simplifies your understanding of an organisation in motion and makes things more clear.
It is also a metaphor: it is what it is, a group of people moving around something, it is like a dance. But it opens up your creative imagination as it describes something else: an organisation in motion. The possibilites explored in the dance becomes the potential possibilites of the organisation.
Direct, personal and immediate insight of what “an organisation in motion” means.
